A24 continues to live up to its reputation as one of the most unique distribution companies in film. While the company is mainly known for their selection of genre bending films (The Killing of a Sacred Deer, A Ghost Story, It Comes At Night), they also have a reputation for housing one of the most creative marketing teams in the game. From their clever social media outlets to their strange promotional gifts, A24 really knows how to build up a movie. With their latest horror effort Hereditary out in a few days, the enigmatic company has really out done themselves this time.
As the title suggests, Hereditary is a movie about a family who have seemingly inherited a haunting of sorts following the passing of their Grandmother. The film isn’t the first to make usage of the slight creepiness of grandparents (big fan of The Visit), A24 might be the first to showcase them in a classy way. The company has curated a wickedly fun calendar entitled EVIL GRANDMAS, featuring 13 incredibly creepy grandmas showing their love for The Devil. The calendar is for 2019, with a different eerie elderly lady for each month. Baking pies with pentagrams, performing rituals, taking their face off…these are NOT the warm and lovable women of your childhood!
Evil never grows old. Inspired by the scary-cute grandmother at the root of Hereditary‘s horrors, A24 presents EVIL GRANDMAS, a limited edition wall calendar depicting thirteen Satan-worshiping grandmas.
Hereditary has been a festival hit, being touted as one of the scariest films in recent years, so it’s not surprising that they are doubling down the promotion. Following the film’s premiere at Sundance, the company sent toys inspired by the film to attendees, including A24 alumni and Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins. With all the reviews and hilariously fun promotion, the hype for Hereditary is through the roof. We only have a few more days to find out if the film cashes in on the excitement and delivers. In the mean time, you can totally pre-order an EVIL GRANDMAS calendar now online at the A24 merch shop. A perfect Father’s Day gift for your demented dad or even your favorite NOFS contributing writer (my birthday was last week, I accept late gifts)?
