According to Deadline, Universal and Amblin Entertainment announced a September 21, 2018 release date for House with a Clock in its Walls.
Directed by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel), the film stars Jack Black and two-time Academy Award winner, Cate Blanchett. Eli Roth is no stranger to horror cinema, but this will be his first family-friendly film. Kyle MacLachlan (star of Twin Peaks), and Renée Elise Goldsberry also star.
House with a Clock in its Walls Stars School of Rock’s, Jack Black
The film is an adaptation of the 1973 children’s novel written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey. After the death of his parents, Lewis Barnavelt (portrayed by Owen Vacarro) is sent to live with his uncle, Jonathan. In the seemingly quiet Michigan town, Lewis encounters wizards and witches before learning that a prominent wizard has hidden a ticking clock in the walls of his uncle’s home. The clock must be found before it alarms and triggers the apocalypse.
The House with a Clock in its Walls is executive produced by William Sherak, Laeta Kalogridis and Tracey Nyberg. Eric Kripke, who is best known for his work on the CW11 hit, Supernatural, wrote the script.
With its fall release date, The House with a Clock in its Walls will be in direct competition with another children’s horror film, Goosebumps 2, which also stars Jack Black. It looks like 2018 will be the year to usher in a new generation of horror fans!
