The much maligned American remake of the French Extreme film Inside is coming to DVD. The film had a limited theatrical release earlier this month, as well VOD. The film has received generally poor reception from critics and fans alike. It currently sits at a 4.2 on IMDb, a 36 Metascore, a 25% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. The low scores are surely due to the outrage from fans of the original film.
The original Inside saw its release back in 2007 in France. The film follows Sarah (Alysson Paradis) who lost her husband and is on the brink of motherhood. She has to deal with the torment by a strange woman (Béatrice Dalle) who wants her unborn baby. As stated above, the original Inside was part of the French Extreme wave along with films like Martyrs, High Tension and Frontier(s). The genre was established in the early 2000’s with only a few entries since that time. French-Extreme films featured ramped-up violence and challenging story lines. The American remake of Martyrs was critically questioned as to why it was made, and Inside seems to be getting a similar treatment. If you’re still on the fence, our very own Joe Lipsett recently reviewed the film, calling it A Decent Home Invasion Thriller…Unless You’ve Seen The Original.
Four months after the death of her husband, a woman on the brink of motherhood is tormented in her home by a strange woman who wants her unborn baby.
Rachel Nichols (P2, The Amityville Horror) stars in the role of the pregnant Sarah. The Woman stalking her is Laura Harring of Mulholland Drive and The Caller. The film is directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas (Kidnapped, Extinction) with Jaume Balagueró and Manu Díez re-writing Alexandre Bustillo & Juien Maury’s original script. The remake is a co-production of the United States, Spain, UK and France.
