Exciting new plot details for IT Chapter 2 have come to light from screenwriter Gary Dauberman.
In an interview with Cinemablend, Dauberman goes into some detail on plot points that will be included in the upcoming film. Fans of the novel will be pleased to know that a few key scenes will be making their way into the film. First up, it looks as though The Ritual of Chüd is in;
“The Ritual of Chüd is challenging, but it’s such an important component to the book that we had to address it. That stuff is difficult to balance, but because [director Andy Muschietti, producer Barbara Muschietti and I] worked with each other before, when I’m writing pages and all that stuff it becomes more of a conversation and less like, ‘Hey, here’s what I did.’ It’s sort of organic; it’s really kind of just chipping away at the stone and trying to find the most focused, accessible way into some of more metaphysical aspects of that book.”
Alongside this, the Adrian Melon side-plot also appears to be in.
I think that’s something that Andy gave a lot of thought about, which was great, because as I was kind of chugging along through the Adrian Melon stuff and sort of more the stuff that’s in the book that you kind of just want to see on-screen. I’m writing that stuff, and Andy would kind of go off and think about Chüd and how he wants to visually represent all that stuff. He just came up with some brilliant, brilliant stuff… It really is going to be amazing.
Stephen King’s IT tells the story of a trans-dimensional being that stalks the small town of Derry, Maine. IT feeds off of people’s fear and appears to them as what may scare them the most, to salt the meat as it were. IT predominantly likes to take the form of a clown called Pennywise. A group of young outcasts called The Losers club fight and defeat IT forcing to flee into a 27-year hibernation setting up for the events that will be told in IT: Chapter 2.
As well as the original 1986 novel, IT was a TV mini-series in 1990 starring Tim Curry. In 2017, IT made its way to the big screen and amassed over $700 million worldwide laving fans with baited-breath for the second instalment.
Some really cool news right there. It’s great to learn that some of the smaller plot points like Adrian Melon and even the Giant Paul Bunyan statue are being included. More surprising being the addition of The Ritual of Chüd, one of the oddest but most integral parts of the novel. How it is going to transfer to the screen remains to be seen. One thing is for sure with all these announcements, the hype for IT Chapter 2 is real and growing by the day.
IT Chapter 2 is scheduled for release September 6th 2019.
