Establishing her place as a principal player in the American Horror Story universe, Jessica Lange continues to display her powerful presence on screen even after exiting FX’s hit series in 2015. Yet even after three seasons of Lange’s absence from AHS, fans have held to the long awaited hope of her return to the critically acclaimed horror television series. Well, it seems the wait is finally over. During FX’s Television Critics Association press tour, held earlier Friday, August 3rd, AHS primary cast member Sarah Paulson officially announced Jessica Lange’s return to the show’s upcoming eighth season. The AHS panel, which included Paulson alongside the show’s executives, revealed modest details regarding season eight’s plot, which will be titled Apocalypse.
According to Fox News, Paulson shared Lange’s return with reporters during the AHS panel stating, “I do have the great pleasure of letting you all know that, yes, she will be back.” She continues by elaborating, “Jessica will be returning as Constance [Langdon] in an episode that I’m going to direct.” For those familiar with AHS: Murder House (season one), Constance is the next door neighbor harboring dark secrets that eventually reveal a horrifying past.
Lange’s return to portray Constance is part of a season crossover between Murder House (season one) and Coven (season three), which was initially announced this past June via AHS show creator/writer Ryan Murphy’s Twitter account. Apocalypse will also feature the return of primary cast members Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Kathy Bates; the eighth season will also feature new cast member Cody Fern portraying Michael Langdon (check out the season one ending to find out why you won’t want to miss this season).
Another major announcement during FX’s TCA panel was American Horror Story will be renewed for a 10th season. As for Lange’s continual involvement, only time will tell. Jessica Lange is currently co-producing and starring in another critically acclaimed FX series titled, Feud, alongside co-star Susan Sarandon (Thelma and Louise) and Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games). Feud is also created, written and directed by Ryan Murphy.
