Jordan Peele Talks Possible GET OUT Sequel at Oscar Nominee Party

It goes without saying that Jordan Peele’s Get Out was one of the most successful films of 2017. Earning more than $250 Million worldwide at the box office with a production budget of (roughly) $4.5 Million, the films was certainly one of the most profitable of the year. This of course doesn’t include Blu-Ray and DVD sales, of which I’ve seen domestic reports of approximately $9 Million. That said, what has made Get Out so successful is it’s resonance with audiences. It was a cultural phenomenon that rightly deserves every Oscar nomination.

That connection audiences felt with Chris and his struggle, is exactly what Jordan Peele has looked to, as he considers developing a sequel. At the Hollywood Reporter’s sixth annual Nominees Night Party, Peele talked with THR about how touched he was to hear audience feedback regarding The Sunken Place, and that he is still very interested in expanding on that world.

Regarding a Get Out sequel, Peele had this to say:

I can tell you that I will definitely seriously consider it. I love that universe and I feel like there’s more story to tell. I don’t know what it is now but there are some loose ends that want to be tied up. […] I would never want to do a sequel that just feels like for the sake of doing a sequel. I would have to have a story that I feel like would take it up a notch.

Get Out is nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Actor Daniel Kaluuya was also nominated for Best Performance By An Actor In A Leading Role. The 90th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California at 5:00 p.m. PST on March 4, 2018.

But honestly, who cares what The Academy has to say. Cast your vote for Get Out now in the 1st annual Freddy’s!
