Exciting news from the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood camp, after months of speculation it has been released that Margot Robbie is in final talks to play Sharon Tate. The latest Quentin Tarantino project will depict the story of actress Sharon Tate’s tragic murder in the summer of 1969. At the height of the summer of love, members of Charles Manson’s drug fuelled cult ‘The Family’ brutally murdered Tate and four others in her home at 10050 Cielo Drive.
Robbie has been endorsed by the Tate family as their choice to play Sharon and the actress has even said she would love to work with Tarantino. Coming right off the back of her nomination for best actress Oscar for I, Tonya it does seem she would really give the role the respect and dedication it needs.
Tate was eight and a half months pregnant when she was killed, alongside friends Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski and her caretakers visitor Steven Parent.
Plot details which have been released so far follow former Western TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo Di Caprio) and his stunt double Cliff Booth ( Brad Pitt) who are next door neighbours to Sharon Tate. Its been suggested that Manson himself will be portrayed only as a background character to the main storyline.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the production. Tarantino’s beloved exploitation style has raised fears around how he will handle such a sensitive subject. Adding to that, the recent issues raised surrounding Tarantino involving actor mistreatment meant there was questioning around whether Sony Pictures would even bank roll the movie. There’s also the fact that Tate was married to Roman Polanski, how he will feature in the movie is unclear.
The movie is set to be released on August 9th, 2018. which marks the 50th anniversary of the murders.
