Are you ready movie fans? Please, let this soak in for a moment. Nicolas Cage leads a band of jiu jitsu masters who are on a mission to protect earth from a band of invading aliens. Simply. Thank you, movie Gods.

Before Nicolas Cage went all 90s action hero with The Rock (1996), Con Air (1997) and Face Off (1997), he was already known for his offbeat sensibilities. From Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) to Moonstruck (1987), his journey to and after winning the Best Actor Oscar for Mike Figgs’ Leaving Las Vegas (1995), is the stuff of movie legend. Coupled with his off-screen realities including owning numerous castles, dinosaur fossils and other rare antiques, its seems that his current tenure into the cinema of the obscure if quite fitting.

With the soon to be in production Jiu Jitsu, Nic Cage teams up with Alain Moussi of the recent martial arts reboot Kickboxer: Vengeance (2016) and it’s sequel Kickboxer: Retaliation (2018) for a tale of special forces soldiers, who with the mastery of jiu jitsu, fend off a pending apocalyptic invasion led by vicious alien creatures from outer space that takes place every six years.

This synopsis alone has me waiting in anticipation for yet another Nic Cage experience that goes into the movie realm of other worldliness. Although, Cage hasn’t been in many major studio films in recent years, his work in the world of VOD and Limited Release has been provocative. From the drama Joe (2013) to last year’s Mandy (2018), the promise of Nicolas Cage in a movie still carries considerable weight.
