Following on from the resounding worldwide success of the previous instalments in The Conjuring series, Corin Hardy’s spin-off film The Nun heralds it’s iminent trailer release with the first official teaser image of demon nun Valek.
The Conjuring series, comprising The Conjuring (2013), Annabelle (2014), The Conjuring 2 (2016) and Annabelle: Creation (2017) have amassed worldwide box office takings in excess of $1 Billion with anoher two films planned for release after The Nun.
The Nun sees the return of Valek to our cinema screens following an initial terrifying appearance in 2016’s The Conjuring 2. An official synopsis for The Nun was also offered with the teaser image.
When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in The Conjuring 2, as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.
There is no denying Valek, the apparition in The Conjuring 2, made quite the impact on her first appearance. It is going to be very interesting to see how the character holds its own with its own movie and how it’s mythos and back-story stand to be expanded when The Nun hits cinema screens this September. Directed by Corin Hardy, The Nun stars Demian Bichir (Alien: Covenant), Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story), Jonas Bloquet (Elle), Charlotte Hope (Game of Thrones), Ingrid Bisu (Toni Erdmann) with Bonnie Aarons reprising her role as demonic nun Valek. The Nun is scheduled to hit theatres September 19, 2018.
