Christmas movies and advent calendars are classic Holiday traditions. Prepare for the ultimate horror twist, as this season, we’ll be getting a cinematic Christmas horror advent calendar in the form of Deathcember, an anthology film that will showcase 24 short films from 24 directors. The creators recently revealed the official poster touting “the 24 doors to hell” that will be experienced.
The producers of Deathcember, Dominic Saxl, Ivo Scheloske, and Frank Vogt, began crowdfunding back in December of 2018 via Kickstarter. As the directors began to fill in the slots behind the little advent doors, the crowdfunding picked up steam. By January 15, 2019, they reached their funding goal! Everything that they’ve been able to raise after that has gone into making things bigger and better.
There are some familiar names among the directors that they’ve added to their sleigh: Pollyanna McIntosh (Darlin’, Jadis/Anne from The Walking Dead), Lucky McKee (May), Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust), and Trent Haaga (writer of Deadgirl). These and many up and coming talent are behind each of the doors on the calendar. Deathcember also has familiar talent in front of the screen with the likes of Barbara Crampton (Reanimator, Castle Freak), Tiffany Shepis (Tromeo and Juliet, Victor Crowley), and AJ Bowen (You’re Next).
The producers stated that they will be at the upcoming Cannes’ Film Festival with more information on Deathcember. As for a release date, that will come sometime in 2020. Their hope is to have all completed by September 2019 to premiere at Fantastic Fest, but their ultimate goal is for a screening at Sitges.
What’s so great is that they have been very active on their social channels with updates on where the films stand, and are constantly posting surprises about the film. You can find them on the official Deathcember Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. And if you’re feeling in the Christmas spirit a little early, their Kickstarter is still accepting pledges with additional rewards recently being added.
I’ve been keeping tabs on this since the December 2018 announcement, and I’m freaking excited for what is to come! How about you, fiends?
