Hell hath no fury indeed. Coralie Fargeat’s latest thriller, Revenge is slated for US release on May 11th, 2018. Starring Matilda Lutz (Rings) as the film’s protagonist, writer/director Coralie Fargeat has penned a script that is not intended for the faint of heart. Revenge held its premiere on September 11th, 2017 at the Toronto International Film Festival before moving on to successful festival run, including the Boston Underground Film Festival, and the upcoming Overlook Film Festival. Revenge has received positive reception from critics, currently holding a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Following the film’s theatrical release, AMC’s Shudder has partnered with Neon in bringing Revenge into the VOD circuit. That’s a huge plus for horror/thriller fans. The blood-soaked film has garnered quite a reputation for its intense plot and graphic visuals. Our very own Stephanie Cole called the film “a miraculously visceral experience [that] brilliantly reclaims the controversial exploitation subgenre of the rape-revenge film, all while delivering a stylish and thrilling bloodbath.” All the more reason to look forward to this awesome feature.
According to the Toronto International Film Festival, the film’s synopsis reads,
Never take your mistress on an annual guys’ getaway, especially one devoted to hunting — a violent lesson for three wealthy married men, in writer-director Coralie Fargeat’s feature debut.” It continues, “Soaking the perennial rape/revenge thriller in a strikingly hypnotic style, writer-director Coralie Fargeat’s compelling feature debut reframes the genre’s typical proclivities with a gaze that scrutinizes male bodies and foregrounds its protagonist’s transformation into a hardened vehicle of vengeance.
Scoring US theatrical distribution rights, Neon has been marketing its latest revenge thriller in preparing for its release on May 11th, 2018. Neon’s YouTube channel recently released the RED BAND trailer for Revenge, and it’s bloody intense.
