After the divisive outing that was 2016’s Ghostbusters, fans were thrilled to hear that Jason Reitman was reviving his father’s original franchise. With Reitman’s Ghostbusters 3 headed our way in 2020, the casting announcements have been keeping the excitement high. The latest announcement for the upcoming film is that Sigourney Weaver will be joining Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Dan Ackroyd to reprise her role as Dana Barrett.
For those who need a refresher, Dana Barrett was originally introduced in the original 1984 film as a woman who experiences some supernatural events in her New York City apartment. After catching the attention of Bill Murray’s Peter Venkman, the pair agrees to go out on a date but then Dana gets possessed and the Ghostbusters have to save her and all of New York from Zuul and Gozer.
Five years later, Dana is a single mom who once again finds herself plagued by supernatural occurrences. Thankfully the Ghostbusters are able to help Dana out once again and save her son Oscar from being possed by Prince Vigo – also known as the Scourge of Carpathia, the Sorrow of Moldavia, Vigo the Carpathian, Vigo the Cruel, Vigo the Torturer, Vigo the Despised, Vigo the Unholy.
While there has been no word on whether or not Dana’s son Oscar will be making an appearance in the upcoming film, let’s hope more characters from the original two films will be making a comeback. Weaver seems pretty excited to be joining the original gang for this next installment, and frankly we couldn’t be happier.
