News has been leaking in the past couple of months about The Addams Family, the animated reboot of the classic spooky family franchise. Now, we finally have our first look at the characters in action, via the first trailer that was released today. Before we go any further, check it out here:

Today’s trailer drop was met with, well, less positive reactions than the studio might have hoped. Movie sites are already commenting that the film feels slightly forced, that the animation looks too inhuman and that the jokes fall flat on their face. And to be fair, I definitely got that sense on my first watch-through. However, I think there’s still reason to hold out hope for this film, and that’s the stellar voice cast we see at the end of this trailer.

The Addams Family stars Oscar Isaac as Gomez Addams, Charlize Theron as Morticia Addams, Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester and Chloe Grace Moretz as Wednesday. And on top of that, there’s Finn Wolfhard of It and Stranger Things fame as Pugsley, Bette Midler as Grandmama, and ALLISON JANNEY as the antagonist, a character called Margaux Needler.

So yes, if you came away from that trailer not exactly pumped about the film’s prospects, then many of us are with you. But for the voice cast alone, I’m going to give this movie a shot, and hopefully you will too. I mean, if The Addams Family can invent a word to rhyme with spooky and get “museum” and “scream” to sound alike for their theme song, they can bounce back after a lackluster trailer.
