Following the massive, record breaking success of the Sandra Bullock chiller, Bird Box (2018), Netflix just dropped the first trailer for the upcoming art-based horror film, Velvet Buzzsaw, and we have it here for you now. Velvet Buzzsaw is the new film from Dan Gilroy, the writer and director of Nightcrawler (2014). Buzzsaw reunites Nightcrawler co stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Gilroy’s real-life wife, Rene Russo. In addition to directing, Dan Gilroy wrote the screenplay for Buzzsaw, and Jennifer Fox served as producer. Rounding out the impressive ensemble cast are Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things), John Malkovich (Bird Box), and Toni Collette (Hereditary).
After paintings by an unknown artist are discovered, a supernatural force enacts revenge on those who have allowed their greed to get in the way of art.
Netflix has been on a roll lately, and Velvet Buzzsaw looks like it will be another hit. With a reported budget of $21 million, Velvet Buzzsaw is scheduled to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and will then be available on Netflix’s streaming service beginning February 1, 2019. With an intriguing trailer, a horror-friendly, all star cast, and the fact that Netflix originals are killing it with viewers, it looks like Velvet Buzzsaw will gain A LOT of traction and interest on the days leading up to its debut. Could the film break the Netflix records currently being held by Bird Box? Time will tell.
