IFC Midnight sent us the debut trailer for Ghost Stories and it looks like a wild time! Focusing on a skeptic trying to debunk a trio of hauntings, the film goes for broke with an eerie vibe.
Written/directed by Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson (League of Gentlemen), the horror anthology looks like it could be a fun one. Perhaps independent horror’s answer to what WB is doing with The Conjuring franchise, giving multiple cases based around a protagonist. The team of Nyman and Dyson is a good one, their previous collaborations were very entertaining to say the least.
Ghost Stories stars Nyman as arch skeptic Professor Phillip Goodman, who embarks upon a terror filled quest when he stumbles across a long lost file containing details of three cases of inexplicable ‘hauntings’ and embarks on a mission to find rational explanations for the ghostly happenings. Paul Whitehouse (The Death of Stalin) and Alex Lawther (The Imitation Game) also star.
Adding The Hobbit/Sherlock‘s Martin Freeman is an interesting choice. It shows quality casting as well as scares, a good combination that is showcased in the trailer. IFC Midnight has really outdone themselves in the past few years, acquiring films like The Babadook, The Devil’s Candy and most recently, the exhilarating 68 KILL.
Deciding to include Ghost Stories in their roster is a smart one and if the trailer is any indication of what’s coming to horror lovers in April, I’m all for it. I love the tone of the trailer and there’s a certain vibe to it that really seems unique.
We’ve got more to come on this ominous and eerie ride of a film! With a poster releasing soon and a trailer now here, IFC seems to want to give you a fun time. Will you be checking it out this April, via IFC Midnight?
