“Gaillo-esque, erotic slasher.” Music to a horror fiend’s ears. You’ll find all three in Knife + Heart, the festival darling that’s just received its first trailer and theatrical release dates!

I was just thinking the other day that queer horror is a quiet sub-genre within our world. Even with the rise of amazing representation in horror of many different lives, aspects of the LGBTQ community haven’t fully broken out. Slowly, but surely, it is happening, and there’s a film on the horizon that will hopefully further that.

Synopsis:

Paris, Summer 1979. Anne (French pop star Vanessa Paradis) produces third-rate gay porn. After her editor and lover Lois leaves her, she tries to win her back by shooting her most ambitious film yet with her trusted, flaming sidekick Archibald. But one of her actors is brutally murdered and Anne gets caught up in a strange investigation that turns her life upside-down.

Altered Innocence, producer of LGTBQ films, will release Yann Gonzalez’s Knife + Heart. The trailer first premiered over at BD, and you can catch a glimpse below.

Those color filters! The feather gift! That mask! The material, though. While the Giallo aspects are a plenty (heck yeah!), actress, Vanessa Paradis told WWD,

I think the movie can talk to all of us. I know that sometimes people can be a little afraid of the subject of the movie or the environment in which it takes place, but if they have an open mind, they would see that even though the characters might be different, we are all really alike when it comes to emotions.

Directed by the aforementioned Yann Gonzalez, and written by Gonzalez and Cristiano Mangione, Knife + Heart features Vanessa Paradis (Yoga Hosers), Kate Moran, and Nicolas Maury and features a score by electro-synth genius, M83. The film will hit screens in New York on March 15th followed by LA on March 22nd. Additional dates will be announced soon.
