Who would have thought 2018 would mark the beginning of a Critters resurgence? It started with Scream Factory releasing all four films in a box set, then the announcement came about from SyFy that they’d acquired the rights to the franchise, and then today. Today was a glorious day as Shudder revealed that they will be releasing an 8 part miniseries featuring the maniacal hairy ones.

Shudder didn’t just release the announcement, but included the trailer for the series, which can be seen below.

What are the critters up to 27 years since they’re last mayhem? The official plot synopsis reads:

Pursued by intergalactic bounty hunters, the Critters return to Earth on a secret mission and encounter lovelorn high-schooler Christopher (Joey Morgan, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse), his crush Dana (Stephi Chin-Salvo, iZOMBIE), his best friend Charlie (Bzhaun Rhoden, Van Helsing), and his mom Veronica (Kirsten Robek, The Edge of Seventeen), whose past will come back to bite them—literally. The series also features Gilbert Gottfried (AladdinJustice League Action) and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!).
If the trailer is any indication, we are in for 8 minisodes of absolute debauchery. The gore is aplenty. The lovable hokiness of the original franchise is evident. Then there’s the infamous conglomerate of crites in the shape of a rolling boulder.
The miniseries was written by Al Kaplin, Jon Kaplin, and Jordan Rubin, and will be directed by Rubin. These three are no strangers to havoc wrecking, furry creatures as they’re the trio behind Zombeavers (2014). The three are also executive producing along side the original franchise’s producers, Rupert Harvey and Barry Opper, as well as Ivana Kirkbride, Chris Castallo, Jonathan Stern, and Harvey Kahn.
