AMC’s The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead are getting a lot of heat lately for a loss of ratings among other issues. These complaints are extremely valid, but one thing you have to admit is that these series have produced some outstanding stars for the horror genre. One of those stars, Fear the Walking Dead’s Frank Dillane, is set to star in Astral, a new horror film from director Chris Mul.

Astral looks to be more supernatural than what we know Dillane for best, which will allow him to show off his tremendous acting ability. The film, according to its official synopsis, follow’s Dillane’s Alex as he tries to make contact with this mother’s spirit. It states:

Coming to terms with the explanation of his mother’s untimely death, Alex turns to spiritual contact after the relationship with his father breaks down. As a student of metaphysics, Alex learns of the “scientific” premise of astral projection-the ability to project your spirit into an unseen spatial dimension. Attempting to astral project, Alex becomes plagued by shadow spirits-malevolent entities vying to enter his body to access our world. Alex soon learns that he is not the only member of his family to have been besieged by such beings, as his mother’s dark past is brought to his attention.

Astral was written by Chris and Michael Mul, and it is Chris’ debut feature film. Besides Dillane, the film stars Vanessa Grasse (Leatherface, Roboshark [HELL YEAH!]), Catherine Steadman (Downton Abbey), Trevor White (Doctor Who), and Damson Idris (Snowfall). It will have a limited theatrical release and will be available on VOD November 23rd.

It looks to be full of enough sinister shadows and atmospheric anomalies to satisfy the pickiest of horror fans. I can’t wait to check it out, but what do you think?
