If you’re anything like me, you avoid playing any type of online video game because you are A) objectively terrible and B) you hate being taunted by twelve year old children in Russian. This has kept many of us away from joining all the other cool kids and playing Friday the 13th: The Game. That, is, until now! In Jon’s article from Monday about the newest update to the game, he mentioned the awesome addition of counselor Shelly Finkelstein. When the update finally went live, however, we learned that it had so much more to offer than just everyone’s favorite portly prankster. The patch also includes the ability to play in single player mode and a hint as to the next available map!
According to IllFonic, developers of the game:
Maybe you hate playing online with people. Maybe you want to learn the lay of the land in all the maps. Maybe you just want to practice laying waste to scores of counselors. No matter the why of your situation, today I am happy to announce that the next update of Friday the 13th: The Game will include offline bots. To access this new feature, you’ll want to select the new “Offline Play” menu item, and then “Offline Bots”. Next up you’ll want to select the map you want to play on, and select your preferred Jason.
As for now, you can only play as Jason in the new single-player mode. They have made this choice because they are still developing the AI needed to make Jason a believable offline bot. They don’t want to have him stuck in a corner somewhere and unable to chase and slash. You will be able to select between 1 and 7 counselors to fill your map and you can also select their survival abilities with a new difficulty setting.
In addition to the new single player mode, another cool feature given to us by the newest patch is the “Virtual Cabin 2.0”. IllFonic explains that the Virtual Cabin is a place that you can explore that acts as a “Development Diary” and museum to the game. As you uncover different secrets in the cabin, you will learn about upcoming advancements in game play and features. While exploring the new cabin, it has been found that the next updates that we will be given is none other than a playable Uber Jason and a Jason X “Grendel” Map! So, you will soon be able to kill camp counselors IN SPACE!
There’s no word as to when this new update will be available, but check back to Nightmare on Film Street and we will be sure to update you when it is. In the meantime, download Friday the 13th: The Game and practice your kills in single player mode!
