The first half of season 8 of The Walking Dead has wrapped up. The best laid plans by the alliance were defeated by Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Dwight (Austin Amelio) played his hand but people doubt his sincerity, especially not Daryl (Norman Reedus). We also saw even more adulting from Carl (Chandler Riggs). His plan allowed the residents of Alexandria Free Colony to survive a massacre from The Saviors. Unfortunately though, the city didn’t survive and it looks like Carl won’t either. The mid-season finale ended with a heartfelt moment between Rick (Andrew Lincoln), and Carl as he revealed a a fatal wound to his father.

In a trailer released by AMC teasing the second half of the season, Rick doesn’t look like he is broken. It looks like he is more firm in his charge against the Saviors and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Michonne (Danai Gurira) has a moment in it where she pleads with Dwight to make this stop. It is safe to assume she is referring to Negan. Dwight states that Carl’s plan works, but The Saviors will continue to hunt them. That seems to be the biggest theme from the trailer. The Saviors are back on the offensive!

The hyped face-to-face battle was not delivered this season. Fans will most likely have to wait for the next finale on the horizon. Negan and Rick communicate via radio in the trailer though. Negan asks who is next with Rick informing him that he is. It is safe to assume that with the death of Carl, Rick’s rage will be even worse now.

Something else from the trailer is that the alliance has been out to break the Saviors. There is an image of Simon (Steven Ogg) rallying troops for Negan. It would seem the Saviors are still firmly behind their leader. Even with the alliance gaining the Scavengers. It doesn’t look like even if Seaside joins will Negan lose support of those that follow him now.

The Walking Dead Season 8 returns Sunday, February 25th on AMC.
