You need to check out Widow’s Bay. If you haven’t heard of it yet, Widow’s Bay is a new series on Apple TV that’s basically the funniest thing Stephen King never wrote. It’s a lot like every horror series on Netflix; Small seaside town, trouble bringing in tourists, superstitions and strange happenings… but apart from being deliciously weird, it’s also surprisingly hilarious.
The series follows the skeptical mayor, Tom Loftis (played by Matthew Rhys), who wants to turn the island town of Widow’s Bay into a tourist meca. But with the townsfolk and their crazy stories of mysterious murderous fog, a Salem era witch burning, a haunted hotel room outside of time and space, a creepy clown and who knows what else- he’s having a hard time staying skeptical, even if he wants to.
“Deliciously weird and surprisingly hilarious”
I hadn’t even heard of the series until I got an ad for it a couple of days ago. The promo was a faux tourism ad for the town Widow’s Bay, shot like early 90s tv spot with television grain and fuzz. It was super simple; A man, standing at the bay, welcomes you to explore the town. Then he just walks away. The camera stays stationary, and you watch him walk away for what feels like several minutes. It was so odd, I didn’t even google the show, I just found it and watched it that night.
As of this writing, there are only two episodes released with new episodes hitting Apple TV weekly, so there’s plenty of time to tune in and catch up.
