Remember how Bruce Campbell officially hung up his chainsaw and boomstick. vowing that Ash Williams was put to rest with the finale of Ash Vs. Evil Dead? Seems like there may be a slight possibility that rest may turn out to be just a nap. Bloody-Disgusting interviewed The Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi during promotion for Crawl and asked him where the future of the franchise stands.

While he squashes the hopes of any more universe expansion on TV, he shared that a new film is definitely in the works. But where will that film take us? Will we pick up in the apocalyptic landscape that Ash Vs Evil Dead left? Will Ash join forces with Mia (Jane Levy) from the remake? Is the remake canon? Questions, Raimi! Questions! But he had answers.

I would be thrilled if Bruce Campbell changed his mind about retirement, would come back for the original Evil Dead line. But if not, I’m very happy to work with, if Fede [Álvarez] would come back and make the sequel… but he’s such a big shot now. He’s so successful, an artist in demand, that I don’t think he’d want to do that … But there’s also a third possibility we’re talking about.

It seems like Raimi has covered all of the doorways that the Necronomicon could open: a continuation of Ash‘s story, a continuation of Mia‘s story willing that Álvarez is involved, or a brand new story within The Evil Dead world. Sold, sold, and sold. Raimi went on to say that something should be started within the next 6 months. As an extra, BD got some confirmation from Raimi on whether or not Alvarez’s remake is canon with the original franchise. “I think that’s a part of the Evil Dead universe but not part of the Bruce Campbell storyline.”

We all know that a deadite can not be kept down, and neither can Ashley J. Williams. As for that third option of a brand new story… can I hope Raimi actually meant to finish that sentence with the names Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo)?

How ya feeling about this, fiends? The Evil Dead universe is returning with or without Ash. With Raimi involved, all is good, here! Let us know your feels over on our Twitter, in the Nightmare on Film Street SubReddit, and at The Horror Movie Fiend Club on Facebook!
