Canada’s own Twisted Twins, the Soska Sisters have been hard at work filming their newest project Rabid, and we have just bee given our first look at Laura Vandervoot as the dark protagonist Rose. Rabid is a remake of David Cronenberg’s cult classic of the same name. In the original, Marilyn Chambers played “A young woman [who] develops a taste for human blood after undergoing experimental plastic surgery, and her victims turn into rabid, blood-thirsty zombies who proceed to infect others, which turns into a city-wide epidemic”.
The Soska Sisters re-imagining promises to pay tribute the Cronenberg’s original concept while helping to expand on Rose’s backstory and motivations. Rabid stars Larua Vandervoot (Jigsaw, TV’s Bitten), Benjamin Hollingsworth (TV’s Cult), and Mackenzie Gray (FX’s Legion). Rounding out the cast are Tara Yelland and Ted Atherton (Trench 11, The Andromeda Strain).
What happens when you realize that to achieve your dreams you have to live a nightmare? Rose is a quiet, demure, unassuming woman in her looks and actions. Her dream is to become a famous designer in the fashion world, but a terrible accident leaves Rose scarred beyond recognition. She seeks out a radical untested stem cell treatment. The treatment is nothing short of a miracle and wallflower Rose turns into the belle of the ball. It all seems to good to be true. She is now everything she wanted to be. But everything in life comes at a price and this new found perfect life is no exception.
Rabid is directed by “The Twisted Twins” Jen and Sylvia Soska, who also hold screenwriting credits alongside John Serge. Rabid is a remake of David Cronenberg’s cult classic of the same name. The film began filming in Toronto, Canada earlier this summer and currently has no release date though fans could safely hope to see the Soska’s re-imagining in the latter half of 2019.
