Comedy group Simple Town make their feature film debut in Big Break, which recently celebrated its World Premiere at the 2026 Fantasia Film Festival. The troupe star as heightened versions of themselves, navigating their own complicated relationships while also fighting for survival against a serial killer. After a decade of making online shorts and performing live, Simple Town are headed to Hollywood with this super silly slice cinema that builds off their own lives and twists reality into a hilarious horror story.
Directed by Ian Faria, from a screenplay by Sam Lanier, Big Break follows Caroline (Caro Yost), Felipe (Felipe Di Poi), and Will (Will Niedmann) as they visit their former comedy partner Sam (Sam Lanier) who found success in Hollywood and immediately left them behind. Now, after years disconnected, the gang is finally get back together again.

Sam is just looking to reconnect with his old friends (and humble brag all night about his Hollywood problems) but Caroline, Felipe, and Will are dead set on convincing Sam to cast them in his next movie. Even if it means confronting some uncomfortable truths about their shared past. But of course, their plans get thrown out the window when a knife-wielding maniac crashes the party and the group is forced into a deadly game of cat and mouse.
Big Break is full of big belly laughs, thanks especially to the group’s ability to skewer the absurdity of friendship dynamics or animate the cartoonish intensity of awkward anxiety. Some of the movies funniest bits come from just watching a bunch of nervous goofs trying to make a dinner together without looking like aliens wearing human suits. And all before these knuckleheads find themselves in an impromptu death match against a lunatic. Needless to say, they are way in over their heads, in the silliest way possible.
Simple Town have been working hard for over a decade, making great indie comedy together and Big Break is a culmination of their strengths and talent. It is significantly more of a Thriller than a Horror so maybe tailor your expectations a little bit before sitting down, but don’t let that stop you from laughing your way through what is hopefully the actual big break for this hilarious group of creators.
